Basic Tools

A simple and user-friendly guide is available from NIH to help teach and explain the buttons on the toolbar and how to use them.

Square/Rectangle Tool

1. Open your picture using ImageJ.

2. Click on the sqaure/rectangle tool.

3. Start in one corner of the square or rectangle and drag the tool down to the opposite corner.

 

Line Tool

1. Open your picture using ImageJ.

2. Click on the line tool.

3. Click and drag the tool across the line you want to measure. You can hold down the shift key to make the line straight.

 

Circle Tool

1. Open your picture using ImageJ.

2. Click on the circle tool.

3. Imagine that there's a box around the circle. Click where the upper lefthand corner of the box would be and drag down the to bottom righthand corner.

Angle Tool

1. Open your picture using ImageJ.

2. Click on the angle tool.

3. Click on one side of the angle.

4. Click on the vertex of the angle.

5. Click on the other side of the angle.

*You can measure this angle by using analyze>measure on the tool bar.*
