Grading Procedure

 

I. 20 pts. Proposal
    See Section 8

II. 30 pts. Meeting Minimum Design Load Requirement
    If Test Load is 100 lbs or greater, then score is 30 pts.
    If Test Load is less than 100 lbs, then score = Test Load * 0.3.
   
Example: Case #2 in Section 3
    Score = 70 lbs * 0.3 = 21 pts.

III. 10 pts. Appearance of bridge
    Neatness of joints, symmetry of members
    Paint adds weight and not needed for best appearance

IV. 30 pts. Best Final Total Cost (lowest cost is best)
    If lowest cost of all teams, then score is 30 pts.
    Otherwise score is determined by amount above cost:
    Score = [1-((Final Cost - Lowest Cost)/Lowest Cost)]*30
   
Case #2 Example (assuming Case #1 bridge had best cost):
    Score = [1-((9,010,000 - 8,125,000)/8,125,000)*30 = 27 pts.


V. 10 pts. Best Estimated Cost
    Score = (1-abs(Final Cost/Estimated Cost-1))*10
    Case #2 Example:
    Score = (1-abs(9,010,000/7,810,000-1))*10 = 8 pts.

  100 pts. Maximum Total Points

Assuming proposal and appearance were excellent and Case #1 had the best cost.
