Skill - Aseptic Technique

  • Aseptic technique is the process of sterilizing the work area and equipment to avoid contamination of a sample or workspace.

  • It includes wiping the area with Lysol before beginning to work and sterilizing a piece of equipment via autoclave or an alcohol pad each time it is used.

  •  The sterilization of equipment is of particular concern when testing multiple different samples, as cross-contamination becomes very probable if sterility is not maintained.

  • Also, aseptic technique involves thoroughly washing hands with anti-bacterial soap before beginning work.
