CVGS Goes to Richmond

On Monday, February 9, 2015, five CVGS students went with Dr. Smith to Richmond to meet with area legislators.  The delegation included three seniors,  Dan Brown, Ravdeep Mathone, and Haley Roeser, and two juniors, Whitley Drinkard and Sam LeFew.  The students first met with House delegates Kathy Byron, Ben Cline, and Scott Garrett, and then observed the House proceedings from the Gallery and were introduced to the House by Delegate Garrett.  The students were then able to meet with Senator Steve Newman and Senator Tom Garrett's legislative aide, Mr. Kevin Reynolds.  The students shared their perspectives on the value of the opportunities provided at CVGS, state funding for K-12 education, future changes to the Academic Year Governor's Schools funding formula, and a couple of bills which were at that point still in committee.  Their busy morning was followed by lunch and a tour of the Capitol, and a few photos from the day can be found on our CVGS FaceBook page.  These five students did an outstanding job representing the Central Virginia Governor's School, their home high schools, and K-12 education in Commonwealth in general.  A short video of their introduction to the House can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU2rpdIkoEA&authuser=0
