CVGS Goes to Richmond

On Monday, February 8, 2016, six CVGS students went with Dr. Smith to Richmond to meet with area legislators.  The delegation included two seniors,  Sam LeFew and Whitley Drinkard, and four juniors, Madi Alvis, Julia Grier, Summer Rucker, and Hannah Schrock.  The students had appointments with House delegates Kathy Byron, Ben Cline, Matt Farris, and Scott Garrett, as well as with Senator Steve Newman and Senator Tom Garrett's legislative aide, Mr. Kevin Reynolds.

Following their meetings, the students observed the House proceedings from the Gallery and were introduced to the House by Delegate Garrett.  In their meetings the students shared their perspectives on the value of the opportunities provided at CVGS, state funding for K-12 education, proposed changes to the Academic Year Governor's Schools funding formula in Governor McAuliffe's budget, and a couple of bills which were at that point still in committee.  A few photos from the day will be posted on our CVGS FaceBook page soon.  These six students did an outstanding job representing the Central Virginia Governor's School, their home high schools, and K-12 education in Commonwealth in general, and we appreciate the time and energy they invested in this trip very much!
