2012 Recognition Reception

CVGS Class of 2012

The Central Virginia Governor’s School’s Annual Recognition Ceremony was held the evening of April 30, 2012. Each year, student achievements and the contributions of internship sponsors and program partners are recognized and celebrated, and certificates of completion are awarded to the members of the senior class.

Additionally each year the Faculty Award of Excellence is given to two outstanding students in both the junior and senior classes. The seniors receiving this award for 2012 were Elizabeth Carpenter of Jefferson Forest High School and Isaac Alty of E. C. Glass High School. The junior winners were Lindsay Riordan and Dustin Lape, both of E. C. Glass High School. 

The CVGS Leadership Award in memory of Brandi Nichols was awarded to Monika Payerhin of Brookville High School and Mardhani Aparajithan of Jefferson Forest High School.

Three Governor's School Foundation Scholarships were awarded to seniors who have shown exceptional academic promise and leadership potential.  Hannah Heimer of Altavista Combined School, Aejoo Hong of Heritage High School, and Jennifer Natyzak of Brookville High School each received a Foundation Scholarship. 

Other awards honored students who achieved academic excellence in individual courses. The award winners were: Ben Jackson of Jefferson Forest High School for Connections in Mathematics; Eric Carlson of Brookville High School and Samantha Chalker of Jefferson Forest High School for Mathematical Analysis; Elizabeth Hargis of Rustburg High School and Cristina Good of E. C. Glass High School for Calculus; Ramsey Natour of E. C. Glass High School for Linear Algebra and Vector Calculus;  Sam Bradford of E. C. Glass High School and Sarah Hour  of E. C. Glass High School for Physics; Scottie Taylor of E. C. Glass High School  for Computer Science; Adryan Flores of E. C. Glass High School for Biology; Hannah Heimer of Altavista Combined School for Human Anatomy and Physiology; Nathan Hunt of Jefferson Forest High School, Drew Precious of Jefferson Forest High School, and Anna Gibson of Jefferson Forest High School for Senior Technology Seminars. The winner of the National Association of Biology Teachers Award for Excellence in Life Science was Alexis Bowen of Jefferson Forest High School. 

The Optimist Club of Lynchburg presented Research Recognition Awards to Lindsay Riordan of E. C. Glass High School and Tommy Blankinship of E. C. Glass High School. The winners of the CVGS Faculty Book Award were Karina Payerhin of Brookville High School and Katie Nagley of Jefferson Forest High School. The winners of the CVGS Alumni Book Award were Allie Gossen of Jefferson Forest High School and Sabrina Gerlich of E. C. Glass High School. The awards for Best Junior Research Projects were won by Ashley Humphries of Amherst County High School, Destiny Barnett of Jefferson Forest High School, Kelli Klingenfus of Jefferson Forest High School, Tyler Whitesell of William Campbell Combined School, Anna Yoon of Heritage High School, and Jeffery Seals of Liberty High School.
