Our Annual Recognition Reception took place on Monday, April 27, 2015.  The program for the evening can be found at this link: CVGS Recognition Reception Program 2015.  The following awards were announced at the CVGS annual Recognition Reception.  We are proud of the achievements of all the students who were recognized that evening.
 

CVGS Research Symposium

On Thursday, April 23, 2015, CVGS will host its annual Research Symposium.  Juniors will give ten minute presentations of their research projects, and everyone is welcome to come and support student research.  The program for the evening is attached HERE.

Spring Reminders 2015

This message has four important reminders for our families.  First, CVGS will have math semester exams on Monday, April 20, and science exams on Wednesday, April 22.  Exam periods for all students are from 7:40 am until 10:10 am.  Students are permitted to leave if they finish an exam before the end of the exam period.  

Second, as indicated on our academic calendar, we will be open tomorrow, Saturday, April 18, from 9 am until noon.  Faculty members will be here to assist students who come in for extra help preparing for exams.  

2015-16 Calendar Approved

On April 1, 2015, the CVGS Governing Board approved the academic calendar for 2015-16.  You can find the calendar HERE.

State Science & Engineering Fair

On March 28, nine CVGS students competed in the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair held at VMI in a field of over 200 projects from across the state. They represented us well! Students representing CVGS were Michael Xu, Chris Drumheller,Wynn Kingston Bailey, Bobby Brooks Carlson, Katie Selmer, Sarah Phillips, Andrew Creel, Savhanna Long, Whitley Drinkard. Congratulations for being among the best research projects in the state!
A special congratulations to Bobby Carlson who placed 3rd overall in the Mathematical Science Category!

CVGS Students Go To VJSHS

Congratulations to the five students who were selected to represent CVGS while presenting their research at the Virginia Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at James Madison University on March 19-20, 2015. The students (Eric Wiger, Daniel Hanson, Katie Selmer, Alanna VanValkenburgh, and Sarah Phillips) did an outstanding job both presenting their research and fielding questions from the judges. A special congratulations to Alanna and Sarah for recognition for excellence in oral presentation and excellence in research methods respectively!

Central Virginia Science Fair

The 38th annual Central Virginia Regional Science Fair was held on March 7 at Central Virginia Community College. There were 69 students entered from high school students representing Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County and the City of Lynchburg Public Schools. The fair is an affiliate of the International Science and Engineering Fair. The Fair's website is:

AREVA Continues to Support CVGS

LYNCHBURG, Va., February 25, 2015 – As part of its National Engineers Week celebration, AREVA Inc. presented the Central Virginia Governor’s School for Science and Technology (CVGS) with a $10,000 donation. The CVGS Foundation supports access to advanced technology, unique research projects, trips to university research laboratories and state-level symposiums, student recognition programs, and scholarships for graduating students.

CVGS Goes to Richmond

On Monday, February 9, 2015, five CVGS students went with Dr. Smith to Richmond to meet with area legislators.  The delegation included three seniors,  Dan Brown, Ravdeep Mathone, and Haley Roeser, and two juniors, Whitley Drinkard and Sam LeFew.  The students first met with House delegates Kathy Byron, Ben Cline, and Scott Garrett, and then observed the House proceedings from the Gallery and were introduced to the House by Delegate Garrett.  The students were then able to meet with Senator Steve Newman and Senator Tom Garrett's legislative aide, Mr. Kevin Reynolds.

Congratulations to Scholarship Recipients!

Please click the link below to read the article in the News and Advance (from Wednesday, January 21, 2015) about three wonderful Central Virginia Governor's School for Science and Technology students who have been offered full ride scholarships to Ivy League schools for the fall.  Miss Victoria Davidjohn has an offer from Princeton, Mr. Tim Burnette has an offer from Grinnell, and Miss Rebekah Chun has an offer from Harvard.
