CVGS Open Saturday, October 27, 2012

We at CVGS want to remind our students that CVGS is open this Saturday, October 27, from 9 a.m. until noon.  Attendance is not mandatory, but it is encouraged.  Our students are invited to join us to work on research, math, or their science courses as we prepare for the end of the second six weeks on Friday, November 2, 2012.  Student are welcome to attend for all or only part of the morning, and we will look forward to seeing them this weekend!

Bridge Breaking Event Friday, September 21

We are excited to invite the parents of our senior students to our annual Senior Engineering Bridge Project Stress Testing Competition.  The competition is Friday, September 21, beginning about 8:15 a.m. at the Center for Advanced Engineering and Research in Forest, Virginia.  Directions to the Center can be found on the Center’s web site, and the link below is to a Google Map of the CAER.

CVGS Back to School Potluck Dinner

The Central Virginia Governor's School will hold its annual Back to School Potluck Dinner for parents and students on Monday, August 20, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.

New Student Orientation 2012

We are looking forward to welcoming our new junior students at our New Student Orientation 2012!  We will meet from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day on Monday, June 11, Tuesday, June 12, Wednesday, June 13, and at the end of the summer on Friday, August 10. These orientation days are very important, as students will come to know the facility, the staff, each other, and a great deal about research!  If a student must miss even a portion of a day for any reason, he or she must contact Dr. Smith as soon as possible.

CVGS Students Win C-SPAN Award

This spring Central Virginia Governor's School students Andy Locascio and Drew Precious made an award-winning documentary for C-SPAN's StudentCam competition.  StudentCam is a national documentary competition for students in grades 6 through 12.  This year's competition included over 1,200 entries from 40 states.

CVGS Hosts Science Fair Challenge

CVGS is hosting this regional event for 5th through 8th grade students at Heritage High School at 3020 Wards Ferry Road on Tuesday, May 8.  Registration is from 3:00-3:55 p.m. at the Heritage High School Cafeteria.  Parking is available in the student parking lot near the Wards Ferry Road entrance.  Participants may enter Heritage High School through the Central Virginia Governor's School's entrance.

The Central Virginia Governor’s School’s Annual Recognition Ceremony was held the evening of April 30, 2012. Each year, student achievements and the contributions of internship sponsors and program partners are recognized and celebrated, and certificates of completion are awarded to the members of the senior class.
