Welcome! My name is Josh Middleton and I'm a student at Central Virginia Governor's School. This web site was created to show allow the world to view the research that I completed for the research class here at CVGS.

You may be wondering, "What in the world is a tardigrade?" And then you may wonder what in the world you just said.  This page will tell you what exactly Milnesium tardigradum are and where they come from.

Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to ascertain the effects of ultra-violet radiation on the species Milnesium tardigradum.

Rational: UV-B radiation is becoming an increasing threat as the depletion of the ozone layer increases. While tardigrades are resistant to most types of toxins and environmental conditions, if they are not able to defend themselves against this new threat then they are another addition to the growing list of flora and fauna that are harmed by this aftermath of industrialization.

Hypothesis: The research hypothesis is that the groups of tardigrades exposed to the most UV-B radiation will have the lowest number of surviving tardigrades.
